Starting an auto repair workshop business continues

In order to start your auto repair shop business, there are several things you need to do before actually setting up your auto repair shop. Some of these are;

1.  you need to do marketing analysis of the auto repair business in your area. This will involve taking account of
a) the number of auto repair workshop in your area
b) what kind of cars do they repair
c) the reputation of the various workshops
d) if possible the number of workers they have
e) the level of skill of the workers. With this knowledge You could do some poaching of workers from these workshops when you want.

2.  you need to look at what form of advertising will be best for you and your budget. There are various forms of advertising you can do. These range from print, outdoor, word of mouth, internet, to television etc. Advertising will impact on your budget. So you may start with cheap advertising.

3.  you need to estimate the number and kind of employees you will be working with. Since you are just starting out, you need to employ as few workers as possible. This will keep a cap on salaries and wages.

4.  you need to know in advance whether your employees will need training. Here you could employ already skilled mechanics, if you are on a fast track and you want to build reputation fast. Or you could start slowly by employing unskilled workers. Which means you will have to devote some of your time to do, on the job training.

5. you need to decide on accounting and book keeping. Keeping account of what comes in and goes out is very important to any business concern. Even if you are just starting out. It helps to keep your business well organized.

6. you need to determine which will be your target market. Which market will you be targeting ? There are many ways to go.This may depend on your already acquired skill and knowledge of the auto repair business. There are many brands of automobile in the world. Even in your locality you find many brand of automobile. You could specialize in one or two brands to build your auto repair workshop on. You could specialize on just japanese or American cars. You could specialize on trucks,cars,vans etc. Like I said it may depend on your skill set.

7. and most of all you need to analyze your competition.  Some of the things you need to know about your competition are;
a) Which are the top auto repair workshops in your area and what do they do. That is, why are they tops.
b) Which are the less known auto repair shops in your area and what do they do.
c) What are their strong and weak points.
d) What brands of automobile do they repair.
e) what is their mode off operation.

Auto repair workshop business idea - introduction.

One of the  business ideas that readily comes to mind if you have the skill, is setting up your own auto repair workshop. maybe you have been working for some big auto company or auto repair company without really getting the job satisfaction that you have been craving for. or maybe you don’t even have the skill for auto repair but you have the skill to manage money and business. Auto repair business could be a lucrative business you can easily set up and profit by.

When starting out to establish any busniess venture, you will want to know about the type of business before you even venture into it.
for example, you will want to know

1. if the type of business is profitable
2. your competition
3. how much it will take to invest in it.
4. what are the disadvantages and advantages of the business.
5. and so on..

First of all let’s have an overview of what an auto repair business is all about. Like I always say - for every business one goes into, you have to be unique in that business.Your business has to be known for one unique thing. It could be that your business is the most honest, has the best mechanics around, treats customers with utmost respect etc. It’s time wasting to set up a business just because somebody else has the same type of business. So you end up doing the exact same thing. you need to differentiate yourself from others if you want to succeed in business.

The auto repair business hasn’t got a good reputation. There is always this feeling that the auto repair mechanic is not entirely truthful after repairs have been done. The reason is this -

1) most Customers feel ripped of after getting a receipt after repairs are concluded on their vehicles. Because there is a feeling that the amount on the receipt doesn’t justify the repairs carried out.
2) secondly, auto mechanics will always have you believe that you still have one thing or the other that is wrong with your vehicle and so you will need to come back for more repairs.
3) even in cases when repairs are carried out the customer still feels as if he or she could have done without the repairs in the first place.

Customers car complaint facts - There are about 25,000 complaints a year to the California Bureau of automotive repair. What about those who did not file complaints.

These are some of the things plaguing the auto repair business.
However, you can use these negative perception to create an auto repair business that is unique.
